Favorite Foods: Obama vs. Romney

Happy Election Day! Although Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama are currently battling it out in the polls, the two 2012 presidential hopefuls share a common love for special home-cooked meals and favorite ‘junk food’ indulgences…

It’s a well-documented fact that President Obama enjoys a night in, dining on his family’s special recipe for beef chili. Unsurprisingly, the crowd-pleasing dish is a fall-favorite beyond the White House as well – the perfect warm, hearty accompaniment to the colder nights.

For a unique spin on The President’s favorite stew, check out Chef Tim Love’s bourbon-infused version of the comfort classic, as prepared for Maker’s Mark Bourbon.

But what about so-called ‘junk food’ options? The President recently gave Oprah the inside scoop that pizza tops his list as a favorite restaurant indulgence.

So what if the two were somehow combined to form a hybrid dish? Chef David Bull of Austin’s Congress and Second Bar + Kitchen found a way with this Pepperoni Soup recipe. It’s like pizza in a bowl!

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY

According to Governor Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, his favorite at-home meal is Meatloaf Cakes made from the all-American protein — ground beef.

Although this dish is a classic among meat-lovers, Chef Marcus Samuelsson wanted to find a way to emulate the same rich flavors in a vegetarian rendition. His Portobello and Chickpea Meatless Meatloaf does just that.

But what about Governor Romney’s ‘snack weakness’? The presidential hopeful has been known to whip up a quick and easy Peanut Butter and Honey Sandwich while out campaigning on the road.

And although not a sandwich, this Peanut Butter Pie from Momofuku Milk Bar’s Christina Tosi likely packs the same salty/sweet punch that Governor Romney finds so appealing in his favorite PB+Honey combination.
