Valentine’s Day Bubbles with Craig Collins

Continuing with our ‘Food Is For Lovers’ theme, we’ve asked Master Sommelier, Craig Collins, for his suggested bottles of bubbly to enjoy this weekend. From cava to Champagne and rosé, find the perfect one for your palate.

Scarpetta “Timido” Brut Rose

Pink is the perfect color for Valentines! This wine from Northern Italy is made by Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey. It is a beautiful blend of Franconia and Pinot Noir grapes that shows creamed strawberry, raspberry and red floral notes.

Marques de Gelida Cava

Cava has always been one of my go to bottles of bubbles and this is one of the best while still offering great value. This wine is dry with a striking stone minerality and an intense lemon citrus note that is balanced by a soft green herb character. Try this Cava with Machego cheese!

NV Bruno Paillard Premiere Cuvee Brut

Champagne, France

This champagne is the real deal! A delicate nose of green apples and tangerines opens into a layered palate with notes of cherry and plum. The fruit is complimented by a saline and chalk and the long finish is punctuated with a candy flower note. This wine is best enjoyed with your Valentine and nothing else.

NV Marc Erhart 1er Cru Mareuil-sur-Ay Brut Rose

Champagne, France

Rosé champagne is beautiful in the glass and even better on the palate. This champagne not only has an amazing combination of red and black fruit but it expresses the land that it comes from beautifully with a wet rock and crushed stone quality. Enjoy a glass of this and a chocolate covered strawberry, you can thank me later…

Saracco Moscato d’Asti

A kiss of sweetness and silky soft bubbles make this wine so easy to drink that you should get 2 bottles. Buy some of your favorite fruit while you are at it (I prefer raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries), place them in a mixing bowl and cover with sugar and 1 cup of this wine. Let is sit for a few hours and enjoy this easy dessert with a glass of Moscato, perfect!
