Hailing from Kemnath, Germany, Dennis Gobis, co-owner and head of operations at The Roosevelt Room has spent more than 10 years in the hospitality industry. Once a pre-med student and self-proclaimed ‘chemistry nerd,’ Gobis has married his love of science with his passion for food and beverage throughout his career.
Named one of Zagat Austin’s ‘30 Under 30’ in 2014, Gobis is an active member of the Austin chapter of the United States Bartenders’ Guild. He has competed in and won numerous cocktail competitions, and was named a 2014 U.S. Finalist in the Domaine de Canton Global Bartender of the Year competition. Gobis’ focus has long been on using quality ingredients to create delicious, balanced and accessible beverages. He wants to help shape the rapidly evolving food and beverage scene in Austin, and is doing just that by developing exquisite cocktail creations at The Roosevelt Room. Prior to moving to Austin in 2012, Gobis was an assistant brewer and bartender for the Cleveland Restaurant Group, but managed to have his hand in almost every position there.
Although Gobis’ friends would say he works too much, when he’s not fulfilling most roles at The Roosevelt Room, he is tending to his three dogs, playing drums or riding motorcycles. He leads an active lifestyle in Austin, working out and jumping into bodies of water when he can, but of course with work always on his mind.
