One of the country’s most renowned pitmasters, Pat Martin is self-taught, having learned the art and craft of Western Tennessee smoke and meat in the tiny town of Henderson, Tenn., before making Nashville his home. The Mississippi native incorporates West Tennessee’s legendary whole-hog barbecue style as the cornerstone of his famed restaurant, Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, which now has four locations: the original restaurant in Nolensville, Tenn.; the recently-opened location in Nashville; and restaurants in Mt. Juliet, Tenn. and Morgantown, W. Va. Pat has been featured on the Food Network’s popular broadcast, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” and in publications such as Bon Appetit, Esquire and Men’s Journal. He is a member of the Fatback Collective, a group advocating the benefits of heritage breed livestock.
