Scotty Szekretar grew up on Long Island and spent childhood summers working in restaurants on Fire Island. It was during this time he realized how exciting & fulfilling the kitchen could be. After high school, he headed north of the city to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Following graduation, he began working at Long Island’s prominent Tellers Chophouse, where he rose to the ranks of chef de cuisine and executive chef before becoming General Manager of its sister restaurant, H20 Seafood Grill. In February 2008, Scotty was the featured chef at the Ash Wednesday seafood dinner at the James Beard house.
In search of warmer weather and warmer people, Scotty moved to Austin in 2010. After experiencing a meal at the acclaimed La Condesa, he decided to take a line cook job there to get his foot in the door. Scotty was named sous chef a short time later, then advanced to the position of Director of Culinary Development for Violet Crown Management.
Scotty lives in South Austin with his wife, Nikky, and their 3 dogs, a cat, and a rabbit. The rabbit is not for consumption.
